Last weekend we were at Podcamp Toronto learning all about (you guessed it) …podcasting! We came up with some new ideas that we are sOoOooo excited to share with you all. Stay tuned! #PCTO19

My PodCamp Toronto 2019 talk is now (fittingly) live in podcast form! In this talk, I discuss getting into podcasting, the value of mobile-first podcasting, and, from architecture to branding, how to produce high quality on a budget.
Tune in on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Stitcher, Spotify, and the letstalkshow.ca (link in profile). Want to follow along with the deck? Download it from the episode page on The Let’s Talk Show website. (link in profile)
I love cross-pollination! Although it was a podcast conference, @iammowaja marketing ideas applied to podcast design totally made sense. The wedding photographers’ suggestions on how to increase your following and boost fan engagement (by losing your ego) work for any other businesses. And the lessons learned from podcast veterans … priceless (not only in their field). Thanks @podcamptoronto#pcto19#podcast#toronto
@thoughtsdesignerGabriela Casineanu
did anyone record @anthonymarco‘s presentation at #pcto19? i was too much in awe to remember to record it

Doing what I do at PodCamp. I look forward to this every year! @podcamptoronto
The weekend was all about learning about the trends and future of podcasting. Yet, there’s no forgetting where it all came from. Quite delighted to share the frame with a Rogers radio from 1935! #podcasting#podcastlife#PCTO19
This was fun to do. It was clearly helpful to those who attended to learn, and it was great to have some podcasting friends to share the knowledge and passion. #pcto19https://t.co/sBWBzmgMIX

Spoke today at @podcamptoronto. The conversation was about blogging/vlogging/podcasting and budgets. I made 3 points. 1. Have a plan and a budget. Without it you have an expensive hobby. 2. Register your business. There are so many write-offs 3. Have an exit plan if you aren’t making money. Pretty common sense. There are many ways to earn a living being creative online.You just have to be smart about it, have a plan. Work at it, learn, be ready to pivot and have an exit plan. #pcto19#podcamp#learning#smallbiz#buisnessofblogging#money
THANK YOU to all the people that came to my @PodCampToronto session on websites and social media. I really appreciate you coming and all your questions. #PCTO19

Retargeting can be used for users that have clicked on a specific product on your website & also to help keep your brand top of mind for prospective customers #pcto19#pcto
Retargeting can also include a Facebook pixel code that you can embed on your website. The pixel is activated when you visit the website and then when you go on #Facebook, the retargeting #ad will appear #pcto19#pcto

A pleasure speaking today at PodCamp Toronto 2019, talking podcasting on a budget and building a stylistic philosophy of low budget into your podcasting system. We got cut a little short… but, to be fair, that’s because the audience was so engaged in the discussion — and that ain’t a bad problem to have.
Look out for the full video — coming soon! #PCTO19
#pcto19@shanebee: The RSS feed from Blogger will mostly adapt to the requirements of Apple and iTunes. Blogger doesn’t have a media player, but you can add one with HTML. You can click on the file & play it from the blog as well without a media player
#pcto19: @shanebee stores his podcast audio files on the Internet Archives and then attaches them on Blogger posts using the “Enclosure” function. He also puts a link to the audio file in the blog post
@mzalmeid@PodCampToronto Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed. I’ll release a full version of this talk (in #podcast form!) along with the deck. In the meantime, feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions! #pcto19

There’s a difference between rehashed *public* radio (Serial I guess?) and rehashed *private* radio, the latter being The Best Bits of the Wacky & Whosits Morning Show and the weekend stuff the CRTC makes you do. #clarity#PCTO19https://t.co/NjhABHfNM6
Great news! Two of our podcasts won @CanPodAwards this evening! Congrats to @CLykanStudio’s The Bothy Storytelling Podcast in the Arts category, and to @Pollinata1’s Cross-polliNation in the Business category. #pcto19

Several participants @PodCampToronto seem intrigued with my description of “pop-up” #podcasts Not for every maker, to be sure; but fits as sidebar-type “extra” piece(s) for others. I’ll produce a piece about this in the next few days. #PCTO19
Excellent Humber @medialivelab connections at @PodCampToronto today: I see about 8 students from first-year #Radio dilploma program; Alum/faculty including @stevesaylor @RadioHumberAlum and @PGRadio_Humber alum @JacobMcCourt Great day 1! Next: @CanPodAwards #podcast #celebrate

Truth is not a place. It’s not an object. Nor is it subjective. But is a process. And media and blogging are two ways in society to build that process. #fourthestate#fifthestate#pcto19
Passionate panel discussion on the impact of technology and media on politics, fake news, and reaching the “disengaged middle ground”. Lots of interesting viewpoints and audience input #PCTO19@PodCampTorontohttps://t.co/6iVMQzHY0l

“We’re allowing a marketing mutiny to happen over information […] we’re mixing up the public interest and the public appetite.” Algorithms feed us more of what we react to. That doesn’t mean it’s good stuff. #pcto19
Truly enjoyed running a workshop on how to your idea into product using User Story Mapping. #entrepreneurship#product. Thank you @PodCampToronto for organizing and everyone who contributed to the conversation today. #pcto19

One of my Ottawa friends is in Toronto doing the photography and a talk for “Podcamp”, since I’m a professional tagger alonger and hanger outter, I am obviously attending the conference also.
___
It has social media components but it is mostly focused on Podcasts and I’m all kinds of inspired. Interestingly enough, podcasts have been on my mind lately (without even knowing I would be here this weekend).

Also, this audio editing session is really mega throwing my mind and emotions back to my TV Broadcasting college program days 😳. ___ #Podcamp#pcto19#Toronto#SocialMedia#Podcasts#Radio#Audio

“Most people are listening to podcasts in mono. […] For the first five years of your podcast, unless you’re an audio engineer, stick to mono.” ~ @chrismottes (Related Quora thread: https://t.co/JznOhwxEOO)#podcasting#pcto19
“I would challenge you, if you do a professional podcast, do a personal podcast too. Why not?” Why not indeed. I just might. #PCTO19 /3

“Every band is someone’s favourite band.” I.E., even podcasts with small followings matter. As a writer of five novels with moderate followings, I dig that. #PCTO19 /4
@faceintheblueGeoff Micks
“To extend the metaphor, every podcast is someone’s favourite podcast. You don’t need 100 listeners, 1000 listeners, 10,000 listeners to be successful. […] The act of doing is the important part.” #PCTO19/end
@faceintheblueGeoff Micks
A couple of choice quotes from @anthonymarco‘s presentation at #PCTO19: “There are two qualities to audio: Good enough and not good enough.” (If people will listen, it’s good enough.) /1
@faceintheblueGeoff Micks
“Podcasting puts the means of production in the hands of the workers.” Cribbed from Marx, but the point is there is no barrier or gatekeepers between the makers and the end product’s distribution #PCTO19 /2
@faceintheblueGeoff Micks
Good Q’s + comments in @anthonymarco‘s session re: Anchor. I’ve started using it for convenience and cost, but yes, you lack some control. There are other free apps out there, OSS like Audacity, Reaper, and Ardour. More complex to jump into those, though. #pcto19
I just enjoyed a wonderful and impassioned presentation by @anthonymarco on the past, present, and future of podcasting with a special emphasis on personal podcasts. He inspired me to think about doing something for myself in addition to my work assignment. #PCTO19

“Why aren’t you podcasting?” It’s never been easier to share your voice and tell your story. Dive in for the joy of creating. “You don’t need 1000 listeners to make the art of creation worthwhile.” ~ @anthonymarco#podcasting#pcto19

Most personal podcasts don’t put any energy into promoting their podcast outside a small, nuclear group. They accept that a small, interested audience, will find them through word of mouth. The gold can’t be Googled. #pcto19

“Most of the systemic barriers of creating [personal] podcasts have been erased by technology.” (The barriers of FINDING and CONSUMING personal podcasts are a different story.) ~ @anthonymarco#pcto19
@andymciAndy McIlwain
“Personal podcasting is Coronation Street […] It goes on and on” @anthonymarco#PCTO19
“Podcasting is more accessible now than it has ever been.” Smartphones are ubiquitous. That’s all you need to record, to tell your story. Not enough people are taking advantage of that. ~ @anthonymarco#podcasting#pcto19
“Podcasting is an art form.” Off to a solid start for the second half of the day with @anthonymarco – “This session will contemplate what the next 1, 5, and 10 years of podcasting will look (and sound) like.” https://t.co/Dl2OD9hkrR#podcasting#pcto19
Hope @PodCampToronto is fun this year. Sorry I couldn’t make it due to work. Is there any meetup at a bar late Sunday? Might be able to make that and say hi. #PodcampToronto
I’m on my way to #pcto19 to wave the @albertapodnet flag and learn more about making, marketing and monetizing podcasts. Lots of good sessions so far, judging from the tweets.

Swung by the @podcamptoronto opening mixer on our way to tonight’s movie date, mistakenly grabbed a glass of water from an unrelated party, turns out they do some great work with low income housing, left with a tentative podcast on the books. It’s ‘Day 0’ and #PCTO19 is already a success! They even let me keep the water.
Here’s looking forward to tomorrow’s Day 1!
